Some days I make proper dinners.
Some days I’m surviving on coffee and whatever snacks the kids haven’t found yet.
And honestly? That’s normal.
Social media makes motherhood look beautifully organised with colour-coded lunchboxes and homemade everything.
Real life looks very different in our house.
Here’s what I actually feed my kids when life is chaotic.
Breakfast
Breakfast is usually quick and simple.
Things we actually eat:
Toast with butter or jam
Cereal
Yogurt and fruit
Pancakes if I’m feeling ambitious
Crumpets
Nothing fancy.
Fed kids = successful morning.
Lunch
Lunch depends on what kind of day we’re having.
Easy options:
Sandwiches
Cheese crackers and fruit
Leftovers
Beans on toast
Chicken nuggets if needed
Sometimes lunch is random picky bits on a plate.
That still counts.
Dinner
Dinner is where I try a little harder—but not always.
Our regular easy meals:
Spaghetti bolognese
Pasta bake
Fish fingers, chips and peas
Sausage and mash
Pizza night
Slow cooker meals
Chicken wraps
Beans on toast (again)
No shame here.
Snacks
The children seem permanently hungry.
Usual snacks:
Fruit Crisps Yogurts Toast Rice cakes Biscuits Cheese strings
The Reality
Motherhood doesn’t need to look perfect.
Kids don’t need aesthetic meals every day.
They need food, love, and a mum who isn’t completely burnt out trying to impress Instagram.
And that’s enough.
