Easy Cake Pops to Make with Kids (Messy but Fun!)

There’s something about baking with kids that always sounds like a lovely idea… until your kitchen is covered in crumbs, chocolate, and someone’s licking the spoon before you’ve even started 😅

But honestly? Those are usually the best memories.

These easy cake pops are such a fun activity to do with little ones. They’re simple, don’t need to look perfect, and the kids absolutely love decorating them (and eating half the ingredients along the way).

If you’re looking for an easy baking idea for a rainy afternoon, birthday treat, or just something fun to do together—these are perfect.

What you’ll need

1 ready-made cake (or leftover homemade cake) Buttercream or frosting White or milk chocolate Lollipop sticks Sprinkles A lot of patience 😅

How to make them

Step 1: Crumble the cake

Break your cake into a large bowl until it’s completely crumbly.

This is the bit kids usually love the most—basically acceptable food destruction.

Step 2: Add frosting

Add a spoonful or two of frosting and mix until the cake holds together.

You don’t want it too wet—just enough so you can roll it into balls.

Step 3: Roll into balls

Roll the mixture into small cake balls and place them on a tray.

Try not to make them too big or they’ll fall off the sticks later (learned that the hard way 😅).

Step 4: Chill

Pop them in the freezer for around 30 minutes.

This helps them firm up before dipping.

Step 5: Add sticks

Melt a little chocolate, dip the end of each stick in it, then push into the cake balls.

Back into the fridge for a few minutes.

Step 6: Dip in chocolate

Melt the rest of your chocolate and dip each cake pop until coated.

This is where things usually get messy.

Step 7: Decorate

Add sprinkles before the chocolate sets.

Let the kids go wild here.

Honest mum verdict

Will your kitchen end up looking like chaos? Probably.

Will the cake pops all look Pinterest-perfect? Absolutely not.

Will your kids think it’s the best thing ever? 100%.

And honestly, that’s what matters.
